View Full Version : Couple of observations....

Just wondered if anyone experienced these, and whether anything might be changed in future releases to overcome them...??

1. If Program Bar options are set to multiple lines, but with a Single Scroll line, then the last Program Icon on each line initially appears to be replaced by the Up/Down Arrow buttons. But I found that on the first line (i.e. the one including date), the last icon is in fact still tap-able<?>. You cannot see it, but tap in between the last program icon and the down-arrow icon, and the last program icon program launches. Might be best to ensure that the last icon is actually removed/disabled, whilst it is not being displayed?

2. If the today screen overflows vertically with information (e.g. lots of agenda items displayed, etc.), then as a result, the OS puts a scroll bar on the right-hand-side of the screen. But then the Up Arrow icon on line 1, and half of the Down arrow, (and last icons on other lines?) are hidden behind this bar. Can't get to them... any way of changing this so that if something has to be hidden behind the scroll bar, it's not important!!?? Or in the event that the OS scrollbar is invoked, the Program Bar icons are shuffled to the left...?? (Not sure of the feasibility of that) Or leave the real estate blank 'just in case' (but I know that PPC screen real estate is valuable, and possibly only a few people would see this)

3. I'm sure that this is not a BP2003 issue, but noticed due to using BP2003 - Settings->Memory show 42M allocated to Storage, and 10M in use (and this is reflected by BP2003). But "Total Commander" on PPC (as well as using Desktop navigation), shows that "My Documents" only contains 1.8M of data. Can anyone confirm what else (other folders, etc.) are included in the Storage area memory consumption? (I am obvisouly wrong to think it is just "MyDocs").

Thanks,

P.

Hi pawhe,

I can't answer all your questions, but I'll do what I can. I think the only solution to the scrollbar issue is to put non-essential items on the right-hand side of the screen, put nothing there, or put items there that are wider than the scrollbar, so that they still remain partially visible when it appears. There is no way to alter the program's behaviour when there is a scrollbar, as the OS doesn't notify the app that it's putting one on the screen.

Regarding memory, to some extent it depends on what model you have, but generally the OS and core apps are pre-loaded into ROM, which is why you don't lose them on hard reset. There is other volatile data on your PPC that is not in My Docs. For instance, the default browser cache location is \Windows\Temporary Internet Files, and these files are in RAM. Sorry I can't give you an exhaustive list, but basically anything you would lose after a hard reset is in RAM. Hope this helps. :)</P>

Is this something that's just difficult to implement?

I know I've got other apps on the Today screen that DO shift when a scroll bar is present on the screen. They're able to detect that the scroll bar is there, and shift their display accordingly.

What I'd rather see, is placeable scroll buttons. :)
